What is the HESI A2 Exam?

Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) is computer-based, aptitude test that is used as one component of the selection process for the admission of students into different healthcare education field especially in   Nursing Schools. The HESI exams are used primarily by Nursing Schools as either an admissions assessment tool or as an exam to test whether a student is ready to take their NCLEX exams. The HESI Admission Assessment Exam may also be referred to as the HESI A2 or HESI Entrance Exam. The exam has been used for over 20 years to assess the student’s academic strength to be successful in the program. It evaluates knowledge and skills in three primary academic areas: English Language, Math, and Science. The tests are very similar to college admission tests such as SAT or ACT. 

Inside the HESI A2: Sections, Number of Questions, and Score Interpretation

The exam is computerized and has 320 multiple-choice questions 8 different subtests. It has a 4.5-hour time limit, and the results are valid for one year.

Although schools determine the passing scores, here is a good way to look at your results.

•   * 90-100%: Excellent score. You rocked it!
•   * 80-89%: Very good. Strong score.
•   * 75-79%: Good score, satisfactory to pass
•   * Less than 74%: Poor score. Keep working!
